matsuri no hi

Was up at 5:30 to be at the Kannon-do by 5:45 to be up to the O-Miya by 6:30.

Guri made Shin-Oni, and Mayu did Me-su.  Mi-chan is here, but couldn’t make it to practices at all so is not dancing.  In fact a lot of my Senpai are not dancing.  Hiro’s grandmother died 2 months ago and his Aunt died at 4am this morning.  Take has a back injury and so will only be dancing in front of his own home.  One other guy has a knee injury.

We are a sorry lot.

Me.  I’m resting at Hiro’s place.  It’s not so cold and even though the forecast called for rain, it cleared up, but I still need to take it easy.  The festival will continue throughout the day, on ’til about midnight.  Mostly it’s the kids dancing now.

Last night while we were finishing junbi, Kashira kept insisting that it wouldn’t rain and all of the forecasts said RAIN (!).  Kaicho and the other older folks insisted that he re-evaluate the schedule and order of thing because it wouldn’t be good for the kids to be dancing in the rain.  He insisted again that it would clear up.

I heard a crashing bolt of thunder this morning around 4:30 am, and oddly enough saw other flashes of lightning but heard no thunder.  The wind kicked up in a wild and blustery way.  I went back to sleep for the last hour before I had to get up.

This morning the ground was wet and the wind was still blowing fiercely, but there was no rain.  The wind is pretty intense and it’s gradually becoming more overcast, but hopefully the rain will hold off until tomorrow.
